We are so excited to have Dr. Debbie Phillips as our seminar speaker. Debbie Phillips is a real estate professional with over 25 years of experience with diverse property types. She was named 2015 Certified Property Manager (CPM) of the year by the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) and received the 2013 Outstanding Educator Award by the National Apartment Association’s Education Institute. Debbie was also recognized as one of the top 75 professional women changing the face of real estate in 2013 by the Institute of Real Estate Management.
In addition to her private consulting, Debbie serves as President for the Georgia Apartment Industry Education Foundation, and she serves as Adjunct Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Debbie completed her Ph.D. from Georgia Tech, where her research focused on Resident Satisfaction and Employee Engagement as she developed an Employee Engagement Model for the Multi-Housing Industry. Debbie also holds a Master of Science degree in Housing & Consumer Economics, with an emphasis in Senior Housing, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Consumer Journalism, both from the University of Georgia.
Debbie believes in the philosophy, "You can dream, build and create the most beautiful place in the world, but it takes PEOPLE to make the dream a reality." Debbie’s passion is developing top tier talent that adds value to an organization through increased employee engagement. The results are in from the Tee Off Fore Tatas Golf tournament held on Friday, October 7th... $13, 049.65 was raised for breast cancer research! All proceeds will be donated to the Georgia Cancer Center, Augusta University.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone that came to play, sponsor, donate, or volunteer for the tournament. We couldn't have done it without you!
This was the 10th year of AAGA hosting a Golf Tournament - in the beginning AAGA donated to various charities. In 2010 the golf committee officially changed the tournament's name to Tee Off Fore Tatas to focus on raising awareness and support for breast cancer research. Since 2010 the AAGA Golf Tournament has raised $59,985.44 for breast cancer research.
This year's tournament had 17 teams, including one team of breast cancer survivors sponsored by our Corporate Sponsors. There were 18 hole sponsors and 2 Gold Sponsors, plus many generous donors.

We were deeply saddened to hear of the sudden and tragic loss of a member of our local multifamily community. Linzi Lowe lost her life in an auto accident this past weekend. She was a leasing consultant for Willow Ridge Townhomes (Chartwell Management) and leaves behind her husband, Brandon, and two young children, ages 2 and 7.

AAGA has an exciting new program and are actively looking for new recruits! It’s called The Ambassador Program. This program is comprised of individuals who are going to serve as a “concierge” to our members. Each Ambassador will be assigned a group of members to make personal connections with to give the inside scoop on all of the upcoming events, engaging speakers coming up on the calendar and upcoming education tracks. Ambassadors will get the benefit of meeting new people and help to break the ice at events so that everyone is networking and getting the full impact of what an AAGA membership has to offer! We are super excited about this program and hope that you will help us to make it a success. Current and former Board of Director officers gathered together in late January to create a 3-year strategic plan for the association, with the help of a facilitator, Joshua Dick, the National Apartment Association’s East Region Liaison.
At the all-day planning meeting, the members assessed the association’s strengths & weaknesses, set goals, and created action plans in the following areas: membership, government affairs, communications/public relations, and finance. As part of the strategic plan a new mission statement was created for the association: To promote the professional growth and success of members through education, networking opportunities, and community involvement.
Over the next few months, members will start to see the changes taking effect from this plan. You may already have been contacted by an AAGA ambassador – one of the newly implemented programs created at the strategic planning session. As a part of the planning session, some amendments to the AAGA bylaws are needed to fully implement the plan. The board recommends a “Yes” vote on all four amendments.
If you are unable to attend the next membership meeting, we ask that members please send in their votes using the proxy ballot.

AAGA Bylaws Changes
To implement some of the goals set during our recent strategic planning session, amendments to the AAGA Bylaws were recently proposed by the 2016 Board of Directors. Members are asked to vote on these changes either by proxy ballot (above) or at the April 19th membership meeting. These changes are:
1. (a)Eliminate the Phone & Welcome Committee, and (b) amend the Membership committee to include the Phone & Welcome committee’s duties & responsibilities. These two amendments were proposed to clarify the membership committee responsibilities, and also simplify membership recruitment and retention process by eliminating the Phone & Welcome committee and delegating that committee’s responsibilities into the membership committee.
2. Create a Public Relations Committee as new standing committee. The addition of the Public Relations committee will help the AAGA promote the organization and its activities to non-members and the general public. The intention of creating this committee is to increase the awareness of our organization to the public, and potentially increase our membership.
3. Change the name of Legislative Committee to Government Affairs Committee. This was proposed during the strategic planning session, in order to provide clarity as to this committee’s main purpose.
The 2016 Board of Directors recommend a “Yes” vote on all four proposed amendments. Please use the proxy voting ballot and submit to AAGA by August 5, 2016.
